A Minnesota-based provider of educational and testing programs will open an office in Robinson that is expected to employ up to 250 people, officials said Monday.
Data Recognition Corp. has signed a lease for space at the 5400 Campbell's Run Road office-retail complex, and will provide services to the state Department of Education, said Patrick J. Sentner and John C. Bilyak of NAI Pittsburgh Commercial, a North Side commercial real estate firm.
Data Recognition will occupy a 29,210-square-foot building developed by the Sampson Morris Group of Plum, which was represented by NAI.
Sampson Morris has built and filled five new buildings on the Robinson campus that was the former headquarters complex of Calgon Corp. Sampson Morris purchased the original three-building complex for $6.5 million in 2002.
The now eight-building complex is 95 percent occupied, said Michael Morris, Sampson Morris president.
"With this new tenant, employment at 5400 Campbell's Run Road will be getting close to 1,000," Morris said.
Data Recognition is expected to move into its new facility in January, he said. Company officials could not be reached for comment. Dan Adamski, a commercial broker with the Pittsburgh office of Jones Lang LaSalle, who represented Data Recognition, declined to comment.
Other tenants there include a Verizon Communications Inc. customer service center that occupies Calgon's 130,000-square-foot former headquarters and employs about 500 workers. On site is a 22,000-square-foot Extreme Fitness center and a 4,000-square Aspen Dental Center operation.
A 10,000-square-foot retail building houses Supercuts, Creative Nails, Hollywood Tanning and Moe's Southwest Grill, and another 17,000-square-foot retail building houses CiCi's Pizza Buffett, Asian Grill and a new Air Force recruiting office. About 8,000-square feet of that facility is vacant, he said.
The developer is converting another building, a 40,000-square-foot former Calgon facility, into a self-storage facility, Morris said.
Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux Group, a French company closed Calgon's facilities in 2001 about two years after it purchased the water treatment firm. Sampson Morris purchased it from Nalco Chemical Co. of a Naperville, Ill.,-based unit of the French company.
