• The new 'Y' facility in the Hill District will be named Thelma Lovette Family YMCA, after the community activist, according to the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, which selected P.J. Dick Inc. of West Mifflin as contractor. The building will be on an entire block on Centre Avenue, between Hemans, Addison and Elmore streets. Construction will begin during the first quarter of 2009 with completion set for fall 2010.
• Wade Trim Co. has moved into larger Downtown office space to accommodate anticipated growth. Its new location is One Gateway Center. The firm provides engineering, surveying, planning, operations, landscape architecture and construction services for transportation, water resources, land development and municipal government projects.
• Communifx Corp., formerly Communifax, has expanded its space at 1253 Freedom Rd., Cranberry, and plans to increase its 82-person work force by five by March. The marketing agency will increase space from 19,200 square feet to 27,200 square feet by the end of 2008, Lauren Hunt, marketing manager, said.
• Bakery Square Holdings LP will seek approval from the Pittsburgh Zoning Board of Adjustment Thursday for a six-story, 112-room hotel with 989 parking stalls in Building Two in Bakery Square, East Liberty.
• Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania has opened a store and donation center at 20668 Perry Highway, Cranberry, in a building formerly occupied by Prizant's Carpet. The 12,000-square-foot outlet, Goodwill's 25th in the region, will employ about 15.
• The Washington County Redevelopment Authority's proposal for a 40-unit housing complex for the elderly in South Strabane is on hold after township supervisors voted against providing a letter in support of the project. The letter is needed to obtain $500,000 in slots funding for the six-acre site on Sanitarium Road. William McGowen, the authority's executive director, said, "We are currently weighing all our options on the site."
• A grand opening will be held Friday for the 59-unit WoodCrest Retirement Residence, 1502 Woodcrest Ave., Moon. The four-story facility, developed by a.m. Rodriguez Associates Inc., will house individuals 55 or older whose income does not exceed $25,000 for an individual or $48,800 for a household of two.
• An open house will be held today from 1 to 4 p.m. for a furnished model in the 48-unit Riverside Mews Phase II, 1815 Merriman Way, South Side. Initially, six two- and three-bedroom townhomes will be built by Sota Construction Services Inc. Prudential Preferred Realty is marketing them.
